Macassar Ebony or Cocobolo bow woods
« on: March 16, 2008, 09:24:00 PM »
Does anyone have an pictures of Macassar Ebony and cocobolo woods combined on a riser?

I'd like to see what they would look like.

Thanks,
JD

I think Snag has one too.

Thanks Kille.
The ebony doesn't look dark in that picture, I wonder if the Cocobolo tones it down a bit.

Macassar isn't black like Gaboon or other ebonies, it (usually) is a dark brown with good flowing grain lines, like smoke on a calm day. Here is Bob's "shop photo" of my riser, Macassar with bocote.

Killie there's some mojo in that riser, I can see it.

Bob makes a beautiful bow doesn't he? I was on a weekend deer hunt in Ohio last year and was going to run over to his shop one day, but I ended up taking a buck the first day. I had to postpone the bowyer trip - someday I'll get there.

I might as well ask for the darker ebony with cocobolo pictures as well...

I'm also tinkering with the idea of a bit of Osage in the riser.

Check out the Blacktail Bows site, they have a gallery with examples of darker ebony and cocobolo.

Here is a Cheyenne with Macassar and Hondarus Rosewood. Love the Macassar for it's grain and color variations.

Thats a VERY nice looker of a bow Killy. I've saved it so to have one made of the same timbers one day. Thanks.

It got a half pine cone before it left the shop, Al.

It looks a bit mellower here. I like it mellow.

Dang I like that bow!

I wasn't going to mention Killie's post of that shot, but I was thinking it last night when she posted the first riser pic.

Keep those Ebony pictures coming...

Thanks,
JD

I gotta see that one when it's done, Hickstick! That is some outstanding wood.  :bigsmyl:

Larry, the safe weighed three hundred pounds before I stuffed it full of heavy stuff. I am on the top floor. There is no elevator.  :p

This Arapaho is Macassar and spalted maple, with antler overlay on the front of the riser.
