Late opener, mid season gobbler
« on: May 19, 2015, 10:11:00 PM »
I couldn't get out til 5/16. I decided I'd give a run and gun a try with the bow my first time out this year. I had a few gobblers henned up first thing so I backed off hoping to get on a lonely Tom. Couldn't get anything going so a little after 9 am I headed back to the henned up birds. I got one to really gobble back to my yalps.

I slipped into an old orchard about 20 yards from the edge of a farm field. The gobber was in the middle and coming in. I was able to kneel down behind a bush and a small Apple tree. I changed my calling to purrs and clucks as I scratched at some leaves.
The bird hopped the walk and into the orchard. I had him broadside at 15 yards. I rushed my shot And short drawed on him, hitting him right though the wing. He ran off about 60 yards. I found him easily with my chartuse splices on my fletching.  I got LUCKY!!!
