OK Guys....Here's the reasons for the forum..
« on: March 02, 2015, 06:52:00 PM »
First off I want to thank you all for your service.  I try to thank every uniformed man or woman I see.  We would not be here if it weren't for you guys....too bad a lot of folks don't realise that.

One, so you all could have your own place.  Ya'll all have a connection is some way or another. So, I thought it would be great for all the Veterans on TradGang to have their own little 'satellite fire'.

Two, I figured ya'll might want to hook up on some hunts, hunt swaps, or group hunts.

Three, I though someone or a few of you might be able to help me ramrod something else I've been wanting to do for a while, actually two, but one I think I can handle.

The one I would like help getting started is finding the right person to receive a Track Chair.  If there actually is a TradBowhunter that served that needs one, and how to go about getting it to THAT individual, and even FINDING that individual...if we could get one for a disabled trad bowhunter that would be great.

I'm pretty sure we can raise the funds on TradGang to make that happen, to purchase a Track Chair, and have it customized if need be for hunting.

I just would not have a clue where to start or how to go about it....so, if anyone here has any knowledge about that then it would be great.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again guys.....     :campfire:

Terry, There is a volunteer organization out of Florida called The Indepenence Fund that helps severely injured vets. I know that they have donated track chairs to wounded vets in the past. According to their website, The Indy Fund is simply a vessel which brings the love and support of countless Americans directly to our HEROES who need it most. Whether through monetary donations or new initiatives, we will make sure it reaches the Veterans!
Maybe they can help with finding a tradbowhunting vet in need of a chair.

Terry, that is a very touching and wonderful idea. I do things with wounded warrior and another organization Troops direct.org I know one of the founders can do some checking maybe he can help locate a wounded warrior who happens to be a trad bowhunter if not maybe help in getting a track chair possibly. Most of the focus with this organization is for our men and women currently in harms way.  Thank you again Terry!

Wonderful idea Terry.  I'm behind you all the way.

Maybe we should look at some help with archery gear also.  A guy who is confined may need something a bit different in design or draw, etc.

Terry, thank you for caring about the veterans in this country and those veterans from abroad who come to this site. Some of us old war horses are getting up there in years (Korea and Vietnam), yet continue to hunt even with the limitations imposed by age. I personally don't get to hunt much anymore due to age and the fact that old guys pee a lot and that alone can spoil a hunt for everyone in the woods. Sometimes in my mind I can envision myself out there moving through the woods like I used to and putting that arrow into a hog or deer. The one thing that age cannot take away from me are my memories (at least not yet). Personally, I think you should focus on the young people who have lived through the Iraq and Afghanistan wars when it comes to archery supplies. This is a big task for you and covers a lot of territory. My recommendation would be to have the vets here seek out a deserving young man or women who has served in the recent wars from their state and offer up their names to you at which time you draw a name from a hat. To fund such a product maybe one of the bowyers' who is a sponsor on this site could offer up a bow for auction. That way we can include those who have not served in the auction and give them a chance to contribute. The bow would then be donated to the veteran as well. That way they would get both a chair and a bow. Just a thought.

How on earth did I double post. Terry, as I stated in the above post, that trying to cover the entire spectrum of veterans throughout the United States would be an impossible mission. I think using the existing number of veterans on this site to find and recommend a veteran to receive the seat and maybe a bow this would make the project more manageable. I think the main consideration in recommending a veteran would be that they are in, interested in, or already a traditional bowhunter or archer. Then you could draw a name from the hat. Each veteran here should offer some biography of the person they recommend and place it before the membership before the final draw. That way we can all see who has been recommended. Or, for that matter have the recommended veteran register on this site and present themselves to the membership.

What a great plan Terry.

Have you ever met John Vasos from Michigan? He is dedicated to helping active soldiers and veterans through archery. My family just made a donation to help them buy 3D targets for a place in Kentucky they are building.....140 acres dedicated to veterans, archery, and the prevention of "Veteran Suicide".

We need to help each other boys.....we are all the family some of us have....

No, I haven't Roger...we need to get in touch with someone that's for sure...and find a candidate that shoots a trad bow if all possible, if not, no problem with a compound hunter.
