ive used the pvc feeders and they work good.
I went to a 30gallon industrial garbage can (found at HD) w/ a lit. I screwed a piece of 2x4 inside as a support in between the handles and strung it up by the handles. Simply attached a close line pulley to a branch and hoisted it right up. I cut a circular hole in the bottom 1/4-1/2 inch larger then the dowel you plan to use.
Take a wooden dowel (broom handle etc) drill a hole in the end about 1 inch off from the tip and put a screw through it to form like a T handle or a cross. Place the dowel in the garbage can and the screw acts as a pivot point.
I added some extras as well...I lined the bottom of the garbage can with some sheet metal to keep the critters from chewing through it and riveted it down.
Then just fill with corn, cover the dowel in peanut butter and hoist it up leaving the dowel nose height of a deer.
All they will learn when they want food they will hit the dowel and the corn will fall out. really simple and yous hould be able to make anywhere from 2-4 of these with the gift cert.
