First one is in progress
« on: March 18, 2008, 04:53:00 PM »
I have had sometime off the last few days and finally worked up the courage to give it a try.  I've been working on my first board bow.  I don't hink I'm ready for the 9 minute bow described in one of the TBB, but i'm making progress, slow and steady.  I'm probably doing to much with the scraper, but i don't want to mess it up.  Here is some of the progess.

I don't think it's ready for a short string yet, but it hasn't blown up yet.

How do you regulars out there use the scraper, I've been using it quite a bit, but it seems the limbs are to smooth and I can't get much of a bite with it or the rasp, should I stick with rasp and file until its closer to final draw length.

No, I have a very forgiving wife who can't wait until we buy a house so I can have a shop.

Your scraper needs to be sharpened.

Looks like it's coming along nicely.  This coming from a guy who knows nothing about bow building.

Anyone tried to use a digital bathroom scales for measuring bow weight, I'm not sure why it would matter but it doesn't seem right at all, it says i'm only getting about 40# at around 20 inches, but it feels like a lot more than that.

Here is the progress so far.

Not sure if the tiller looks any different, but it's getting closer to brace height.

Right limb appears little stiff.
