Ever hear of Tamo Ash?
« on: March 18, 2008, 05:21:00 PM »
Might look kinda nice on a bow, wouldn't it?  Maybe a Centaur, 60", 55# @ 28", with a gaboon ebony riser...  More pics in about a month.     :bigsmyl:

That piece of veneer is almost 14" wide -- enough for three or four bows.  Half of it is going to the Brackenbury shop.  I've had lustful thoughts about a Non-typical, too...    :jumper:

If I knew how to post a picture I'd put up some with it in a bow.  One of the most beautiful and figured woods I know of.

I sent Jim TWO hand tracings, just to be sure. Now I have wood envy. Stained darker, it would look great with curly koa.

Hiya, Killie!  Here's what one website says about staining Tamo:  "Readily accepts stains but most woodworkers would consider it a crime."  Well, they'd probably also think it was a crime to cut narrow strips of it for a bow...  Anyway, the veneer is darker and more golden honey colored than in the pic.  And I agree with you about curly koa -- amazing stuff!     :wavey:

Uh-oh. Please don't tell anybody that I suggested it, then. I wouldn't want to jar their sensibilities.

My 'new' bow has spalted tamo ash (complete with through wormholes) on the belly.

That veneer is something else!

Woody, I love Terry's Moab with the Tamo, one of the prettiest bows I've seen. If I wasn't in love with Bob's new carbon/foam limbs, I'd consider building something with those as a veneer.  Hobbit House  has some pics of some awesome veneers; check out the bottom of the link

Yes..that's why I ordered it and named it Tines, and why I committed taking a big buck with it.

Let me see if I can find some pics...

Woody....that will make a beaut of a bow for sure.

Very nice stuff Woody. I hope to play with some of that lovely tamo someday. Have been eyeing some veneer sets on line.

Still have the corner tang knife on my coffee table, it just amazes me every time I see it.
