Steel form ( or optional kinds of forms )
« on: April 08, 2018, 08:58:34 PM »
Hi guys!

One day searching in the web I found this pictures of a interesting method to make a bow form with a bended bar of steel.
That make me thougth if there was some other methods to make bow forms or if someone use this method with steel form.

This would be perfect for me, becaus bow forms with plywood take a lot of space, and I don't have much space to work here.  But I have no Idea in how to make this forms with steel. And have some questions.
For example:

How could I bend the steel exactly in the "bow curve"?
How make it without lost the alignment or bend one side more then other?

I tried one time by hand with a 5mm aluminum bar, but got twisted bow.

So if anyone could help me in this or if there are others kind of bow forms that you know, I will be thankfull.

Thanks!

That’s a pretty neat form, but it takes as much space as a plywood one.

You would(I would) have to have some shop bend it for me to get it right. You could lay 2 arrows square across at each end and sight down to see if they match on same plane. Then if the plane isn’t banking same way you’d be good.

Sorry so little help!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Like Kenny said that will take up just as much room and be heavy. But to make one like that I would find some thin metal strips and layer them, just like making a trilam bow. Thin metal (not aluminum) will bend easily and uniformly.
However that will have its issue's as well. Wood would be cheaper and easier.
Once you build one hang it from the ceiling like your bicycles that should save some space.
Life is to short to pass up anything that could potentially be bow wood!
