Bow Design / copy / did he really just ask for my pattern???????

I have found myself intrigued by the bow design used for bows like the SuperShrew and Big Jim's Thunderchild. I am not sure what that style might be called but I am very interested in making one. The basic shape is easy enough to see and mimic but are there any other design points I need to consider? Is there a specific angle the limbs need to be at? Any certain radius to put on the back at the handle/riser area? etc.

Or better yet, the taboo question, does anyone have a pattern they would care to share?

Heck I don't care, I'd send you a copy of my pattern if that's the route you wanted to go,  but I don't have one close to what you want.

I've studied that basic design for a few years myself. Came close to working it out, but never did. Not sure it suits me.

I don't think I'd ask anyone for their pattern on a homemade, custom made, or production bow. Something doesn't seem kosher about it.

I've 'designed'(partially copied in some sense) every laminated bow I've made, except I made a couple of one piece recurves off of a Bingham Project pattern back when I was getting started. It was a good one, but not what I would have done on my own. I made 3 of them.

I suggest you visually study those you like, shoot some of those, then think about what you'd change if anything, and design and make your own based on your thoughts. Even if you make it a lot like someone else's... you layed out the length, width, the exact amount of deflex, reflex, riser length, you largely developed the curves, you smoothed them out... then you make an educated guess as to the best width taper, thickness taper, material... it's like searching for your, own, fit... it's like dating. Do you want someone to choose your mate? Me neither. Invest yourself. Commit. Sink or float on your own. Git er done.

Tips even with the front of the handle aye? I'd soften the deflex a hair at its apex and push the reflex out toward the tips just a little. How long is the riser?

Please don't think me a smart alec... what is an apex? The riser is about 14.5" as drawn, not by any design, I just started laying it out. Admittedly in total ignorance. I was basing it off of photos I found of unstrung Super Shrews and a Mosshorn a buddy of mine has.

  Lonnie...  The Junk-man is right...  When you are dating you don't want somebodies sloppy seconds...   

   But seriously...  Study those other bows, blow them up on your screen and get the angles and such off the fades and how the limbs are laid out and visualize what you might change about it...

   Here is a tip for you...  Make your form oversized...  Height and length...  If the first design does not work so well you can reshape your form...  You can always trim the excess off later on when you are satisfied with your design...

I will put my apologies out, I certainly did not intend to offend anyone. I guess I just have a different view point, as I am not a professional selling my bows I would be quite willing to share any of my own patterns. Not that I am sitting on a cache of them. And if someone doesn't wish to share with me I completely understand.

I think if truth be told, most have copied at least part of their design from someone else's. Heck there's only so many ways to make a spring. Having said that, I believe a person will learn much more about what works and what dosen't by experimenting with design.
