I get not wanting to reinvent the wheel. Especially if a guy isn't selling bows commercially. However, you can't go wrong with one of Bingham's plans and I hear Kenny's plans are great too. These are proven designs that work well and it doesn't cost much to buy the pattern.
But...
Part of the fun of bow building is to come up with your own designs. Let other bows you've shot influence you, but come up with your own plan. Build it with black glass and maple, see how it shoots. Keep notes, modify and try again. Let your design evolve over time.
Honestly, that's the part I like best.
