I'm glad that the prosecutor is finally taking this seriously, and hope the a$$&*#@ is found guilty. You've handled better than I think I would have.

Now is the time to keep your eyes open.  Anyone that would shoot your dogs, and the other things he has done, has a screw loose.  You've done things the right way, but I'd have a loaded gun ready all the time.  You see how long it took the justice system to do anything about your dogs, an open and shut case.  They sure won't be there to protect you and your family if he decides to come over and shoot you.

Thank you all for the kind words and support. As has been stated before, that is what makes this site what it is.

I think about my lab every day. I've been doing a lot of scouting this summer and wishing he was along with me. He was a great companion and I will never forget him.

As long as these charges stick, this guy is gonna have to walk a fine line when it comes to shooting a dog.  He will be a felon if this happens again. I can't imagine that it would be worth it to him to shoot a dog again and risk getting caught. At the very least, maybe this will save somebody else's companion from a senseless killing.

I agree with the above sentiments, this guy is not smart and there is about zero chance of some cathartic experience that will show him the error of his ways. More than likely you will have major trouble with him down the road as he will see it as his right to extract payback. You better watch your back and look after your family. In the horrible event that he does something stupid and dangerous, the best story told is one story.

So killing a dog (your private property) is only considered "animal abuse"? That in itself is criminal!
There can be no 'other side of the coin' in this instance; this guy has a couple screws loose and frankly, you need to watch your back around him. Be careful, and I hope the compensation awarded you is enough to buy you a dozen dogs. Jail time, fines and compulsory community service are more fitting, but at least he's not walking scot-free.

Dogs are a blessing....!  I think dogs are considered personal property in Missouri.  Not sure there is much law enforcement can do about it.  Sue this bastar*--cost him time and dollars.

He has a trial date set. Surprisingly, he ponied up and got a lawyer. I go tomorrow to turn in all the paperwork for restitution and what I want to happen. If he is found guilty and made to pay all of the restitution, he isn't gonna be happy. He has charges of animal abuse and 2nd degree property damage against him. It's taking awhile, but I am just going along with the process and hoping that everything works out. I am hopeful that the court will see what kind of person that he is and make him pay for what he did. If he is found innocent, there isn't much I can do about it. Regardless, this is now becoming an issue for him.

Good that dude needs to go to jail. I've had to put two old dogs. To sleep,I had no choice. It was as bad as watching my parents die.

I am almost speechless. I'm  afraid they would be hauling my neighbor out in a body bag and I would be headed to jail.

Funny this got brought back up right now. I have court in about two weeks to settle it. The weird thing is, two days ago I got a letter in the mail from the judge Judy tv show asking if I would like to appear on it. All expense paid trip and an appearance fee. Never thought I'd get a letter like that. Anyways, this will finally settle the matter. Hopefully he will have to pay.

On another note, my one dog that got shot is doing very well. He will never walk quite right again on the leg that got broke, but he is a funny little quirky guy and he is having fun and still able to run around and play. It's good to see that he is using the leg more and more and it isn't slowing him down completely.

No I'm not going to judge Judy. I don't want to go to LA, be on TV, or take time off work for it. I could possibly use it as leverage to try and get the money that I'm seeking, but I'm just going to follow through on the court date we have and be done with it.
