Well the pics worked , haven’t been around here in a while just been busy with life and all. Think I last posted about some cheap longbows I had bought and after much shooting I still think they are pretty sweet bows. For $194 to your door I think it is outstanding value , they look good and shoot where I look so I can’t ask for much more. My first kill with the new bow was a few weeks back and it was a pretty small target up a tree but the arrow flew true and I had a Ringtail cat. The hide is being tanned and might use for a quiver.

So l have been busy doing a lot of fishing and not as much hunting this year but me and several friends went to a big 3D shoot last week and also did a bit of hunting. As always I’m hunting free range animals no high fence , I have been lucky over the years and have taken 5 Aoudad with a recurve and this was my first with a longbow he ain’t the biggest but I’m glad to have him. The bow I’m shooting is the Galaxy Black Ridge Longbow 62in 52@30 , 400 carbon with a 270gr Ribtek head. No big stalk story this time I was in a blind and he came into a mineral lick and gave me a 12yd quartering away shot. I watched him go about 50yds and bed down , some cows near by made some noise and he stood to look at them then walked several more yards and was out of sight. I could never see the exit hole so I backed out and went to camp and gave him a few hours. Back with a pack frame and some help to track , we walked over the ridge and I told the story and said he went out of sight right by that tree. And we started glassing and guess what there he was right at the base of that tree dead as a door nail. The shot was good you can see the exit hole in the pics. The day was heating up so we made short work of him and headed back to camp , we cooked up some Axis and Aoudad blackstrap for everyone the following night. Anyone that says Aoudad ain’t good eating is dead wrong in my book we had a camp of 5 hunters all tradgang members and at dinner not much talking was going on just filling our faces with some prime meat. Two of the guys had never had Aoudad before and had always heard it was no good to eat and neither could figure out why they were told that cause it’s very good meat. Anyhow the 3D event was great my two buddies that shot it with me placed and won a buckle but I did not ( wasn't far behind them ) guess I like the targets that bleed....

Fantastic! Thanks for sharing

That's pretty cool. A Texas aoudad hunt is on my bucket list of bow hunts, so it's good to see your post and photos.

Sam
Sounds like a great hunt! Those are neat animals for sure.

I wanted to get your opinion on those Galaxy bows. I'm looking at the take down Ember longbow of the same make. I have been trying to find someone with some time on these bows to get a good assessment of them. I think I saw your post of the two you have. Now that you have hunted with them some what do you think?

Thanks for sharing the photos and they story.

Way to go Sam!  Thanks for the pics & story,  those Ringtails aren't the best smelling varmints.

I don't think any aoudad is easy- good job and thanks for the story.

I really like the Galaxy longbows , I bought a second one only a week after I got the first one so I have a 40# and a 45# ( but I draw 30in so 46# and 52# for me )

They have been treating me so well I ordered another Black Ridge 50# ( guessing 56 or 57 for me ) and figured while I was at it I ordered a Ember also. Both are on backorder but both show to ship in a few weeks. I really like the bows they look good and shoot as good as I can make them , haven’t found a fault yet. I wish they were 64in but at 62in they still shoot as good as any bow I have ever had. All that being said one might blow-up on me tomorrow , and with that said I have had some of the best of the best come apart in my hands more than once. Thinking about getting one of the 70in longbows from them for tournaments
And form work. Also just so you know I have nothing to do with Galaxy bows or the company that sells them so I have nothing to gain here I just like the bows...
