Because all of the bend is happening right at the deflex post....This is how I do it now.  Makes the transition smoother and easier to tiller.

I used to do that, and it works pretty well. then I wised up and made one of these after I decided I was done tinkering with the amount of reflex and deflex.

John, hickory lends itself well to heat treating but only the belly. If you have already glued it up it's probably too late though.

Thanks Pat, I wasn't sure so I only heated the belly side, not on the glue up side though.

John, with what you are building, I would not even worry about heat treating the belly.

I never have heat treated the belly on any of my trilam builds or any of my builds.

Well guys she came out perfect, cant remember the measurements for the R/D. You have to look real close and in a couple spots you can see the belly/core and tell its a trilam. They were two slices from the same board.
I had a two foot piece from that board I steamed to fit as a 12 inch riser. Reason being I like the idea and feel of a pistol grip but didn't want that carved riser look. This will effect hand placement, if it don't work ill glue in a thin piece and make it a straight handle bow.
