Wood arrow itch..
« on: April 27, 2018, 12:00:04 AM »
I've got an itch for some wood arrows.. I want to build them.  I don't have any materials to straighten or bevel ends, etc.  I don't mind borrowing those from friends, though. ;)

I know my arrows i'm currently shooting are all 65-69 spine.  What is the best place to get them?  Is there one material I need to look at over another?  Is one supplier better than another?

It would be good to buy the tools to taper and straighten your wood arrows. They require a little more maintenance than carbon or aluminum and you'll use these on occasion.

Kustom Kings premium cedar shafts are very good.  Nothing beats quality cedar.

Can you recommend a good taper and straightener?

X2 on Surewoods, they will do it all for you, and have test kits available so you can play with different spine weights.
Too many bows to list, and so many more I want to try!  Keep the wind in your face, and your broadheads sharp.

You can straighten pretty handily with a heat gun and your hands.  I've always suspected that the wood arrow straighteners that crush wood on the strong side might effect the spine.  But I don't know that for a fact.

If you buy douglas fir shafts from Surewood, you won't have to do much straightening.  But come straight and tend to remain that way.
