The wood arrow bug has bitten.....
« on: April 27, 2018, 03:05:56 PM »
.....and Im infected!  :biglaugh:

Actually been wanting to shoot wood for a couple of years now, and I stopped by Tom Jenkins place a few weeks ago and shot some wood and that sealed the deal for me! Chuck from Two Tracks is building me a "Ogemaw" that Im going to setup just for wooden shafts. So you know how us bow guys are...I did a "wood arrow kills" search on here for pics to quench my wood arrow thirst, but the thread is old and the pics no longer are available to view. So....Lets see some pics ! Also Im interested in hearing about your arrow setups and what you guys like, point weights preferred and if FOC or UFOC is a part of your wood arrow setups. Thanks Guys!

Good.   Good . . .

Rats - we don't have a wringing hands smiley.

I've shot nothing but wood since 1982 and the local whitetail seem to have an allergy.  They weren't so affected by aluminum in my 1980-1982 trials.

Wood bows should shoot wood arrows.  Pretty straight forward.  ;-)

Woodies are awesome.

Especially if ya put wild turkey feathers on them.

Cane or bamboo arrows are even more awesome, because of their natural FOC taper.

Bamboo arrows with wild turkey feathers just kick Bass..

First longbow/cedar arrow kill..

It felt awesome....

One week later, first buck with a longbow and cedar arrow.

That was special..

They can be somewhat fragile, though.  Like when the deer falls on them.

Last fall's harvest.

(I've been using only wood shafts since 1982).

Jacobs sheep wool yarn tassel to wipe the dirt and stump blood off my shafts when roving/stumping.

Get the deer to look at that and not notice my predator ferocious stare.  ;-)

Also something to hide behind when stalking up on a deer.

Wood is all I use.   I like POC, Spruce, Pine, and DF in that order.  Trying out some old hex shafts this year.
Not crazy about FOC, but I'll occasionally use some 200 grain Ace or ribteks on the end.  I like a balanced arrow.
Big 5 1/2 inch parabolics and straight offset fletch these days.

I must be doing something wrong. I can't get stumps to bleed no matter how hard I try. :dunno:

Great photos, BTW!
