I could use some help regarding public hunting in Montana. Trying to plan a trip where I can rent a nice cabin and take my wife and daughter, do a little fly fishing, and possibly take the recurve and do some hunting.  Elk or deer. Doesn't matter. We've stayed near Darby before and loved it. Just don't know about any nearby hunting opportunities. Any info would be appreciated.

Are you a Montana resident? Non resident deer and elk tags are draw only,  and the draw is over for this year.  Some of those units around Darby are LE areas as well,  so that's something to keep in mind. I'm in that country quite often,  it certainly is a good place to spend some time.

Nonresident. Coming from Missouri. Not necessarily looking for this year. Trying to plan ahead for next year or the following.

My wife wants to take a trip to Jackson Hole, so I guess info regarding similar opportunities in Wyoming or even Colorado would be nice. I just love it out west so I'd be happy traveling just about anywhere.

You could always look into the forest service cabins.  https://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/custergallatin/recreation/camping-cabins/?recid=5566&actid=101

I've only walked by them, never stayed there, but I know there are several around here (Bozeman) that are in very good hunting country right out the back door and would be a good time for the family as well.  Definitely do some google maps research though, some of them are right off the road or in crowded recreation areas where hunting wouldn't be ideal.
