Man Law: My 64 Kodiak

I seen 64 kodiak and drewlled on the key bord,, Very nice bow,,Thnakyou for sharing,,

For my nephews I have a 1962 62" 40#@28"grizzly,Factory camo ,and a 1969  62" alaskan 40#@28" They both love shooting the bows and I really enjoy seein the boys with them,,I was buying a bow from Comber and he says,,I'll throw in the rest of the bears that I got,, I didn't know what to expect but when I opened the box it was beautifull,,68 Hunter and the two above,, Thankyou Comber for your generosity my nephews are still enjoying them and My boy and little girl will enjoy them as well,God bless,Jason B.

Hah!!!  Gotta tell you a kind of funny story.  I always wanted to have 63 thru 65 models.  Well the 63 was the last one I bought.  I always knew about the funky riser and how they quit making it after a year as a few of them broke.  

Well, I get my bow and as I'm looking at it, I'm looking at that line that is formed in the sight window where one of the sections of wood is milled away to create the sight window.  And I'm looking at this line thinking "I've been duped!!!!  This bow has a crack in the riser!!!!"  Then after I began to study how the thing was made, I calmed down.  Then I continued to study it and began to see why the things broke.  The 63 model is a flawed design for sure.

But man them Kodiaks are beautiful!!!

I was just lookin at that dogleg stacked up against the 64 and 65 in Otto's pic and started thinking "Man, I bet there is a lot of stress right around where that grip/rest is". You can see in the profile pic how Bear beefed up the riser after 63 and the risers just look like they will distribute the stress/pressure of a drawn bow better. The 63 is a cool looking bow tho! Bet 64"er is one smooooothhhh shooting Bear. I owned a 64" 51# 1960 Kodiak a while back and it too was a sweet shooter but someone made me an offer that was too hard to refuse...

Ah but,the 1963 Kodiaks and Grizzlys were never recalled...It was the type one and type two Kodiak Magnums that were recalled do to breakage.Type three mags were never recalled..But the 1963 Kodiaks never really had any problems...The one I have is 55# and probley had been shot at least 10,000 times before I got it.Like any of the 1960's vintage Bear Kodiaks...very good shooters.One other thought on the recalls,after Bear archery realized what was happening...they kinda did not recommend the step thru stringing anymore.Eather push pull or a bow stringer only..Thats what actually broke over 50% of Bears returns was step thru stringing....You know you got a guy 6'8" 350 pounds stepping thru a 52 inch mag and then just twisting heTT out of the upper limb.Bang something had to give..Thats want broke most bows back then and still does today....But the 1963 Kodiaks and Grizzlys are great shooters and were never recalled only the 1963 mags type 1&2 ...bowdoc
