Arrow Weight...
« on: June 09, 2018, 03:49:07 PM »
I'd like to hear from you as to how heavy your hunting arrow is. Specifically a deer/bear setup...kind've new to traditional so I'd like to know what the average weight is. Thanks

10 grains per pound of draw weight is pretty standard fare.  I shoot just a touch heavier arrow weight at the moment,  but I'm still experimenting with some different arrows.  I'm drawing 56# or so at my draw length,  and my current setup is about 610gr on my arrow.

I'm thinking of going with an arrow setup that is about 600 grains with about 25% FOC. My longbow is only 50# does 600 grains sound too heavy?

Exactly 12 GPI   you will be fine. Will hit hard and be quiet.   I find once you start getting 13 and 14gpi   you still hit harder but trajectory starts to suffer.

My go to bow for hunting is my N.M. Whisper which is 48# at my draw length. I shoot douglas fir shafts that come in right around 550gns. with 160gn. Ace broadhead. All my shots are less than 20yds. Most 15yds. or less.

640 gr. out of a 50# recurve.  My trajectory is horrible for 3D shoots where most shots are about 30 yards and beyond.  But the gaps are easy & small at hunting distances, which is all I really care about.
