Southern California traditional bow hunters club?
« on: June 11, 2018, 01:24:35 PM »
Hey all,

I found a thread from a few years back regarding traditional archery clubs in So Cal but it wasn’t exactly what I’m looking for. I have shot at Woodley Park and Conejo Valley and was a member at Pasadena Roving Archers but while these places welcome traditional gear, they do not have a lot of hunters in their ranks. I have heard good things about Oak Tree but haven’t been there yet. Can any of you recommend a range or club that actually has members who hunt and encourages our pursuit?

Thanks!

Depending on where you are, you might want to check with folks who use the range at Balboa Park in San Diego.  Nice course out there!  Mostly all animal targets (2D) so I really don't think they have any problems with the idea.  If that's out of your area, they might know somebody closer.

Thanks, Yosemite Sam. I am in Los Angeles so San Diego is 3+ hours away. Any other ideas?

Sorry.  Nope.  I avoid LA whenever possible.  But I made a couple trips a year to SD for work for a while.  Call the local shops -- somebody has to know.

HAHA! Can't blame you for avoiding this place!

You are assuming there even are archery shops around. The closest is in Fullerton and it's pretty much just for compound shooters...

Thanks anyway!

You could try the CBH website. They are state organization and have a list of clubs. I can’t recall any”Trad clubs” in your area but some do have Trad shoots. We used to draw a bunch of Trad shooters from the LA basin back in the 90’s to our Trad shoot. Then in the early 2000’s it slacked off. If I recall gas prices contributed a lot to the decline. After 2008 we dropped the shoot altogether.
I was active member of Bearstate at the time and club treasurer usually. Always appreciated those that drove the hours to our range in Escondido. Still miss those days.

Long Beach bow hunters, they've been a club since the 50's, they have a club shoot on Thursday nights at 7:30 at El Dorado park. It's not a Traditional only club but many shoot trad and they are hunting focused.
