Stumpin'...what colors 'pop' in your environment?
« on: June 29, 2018, 01:57:02 PM »
Wherever you roam and 'stump'...what colors "pop" (i.e. most visible after the shot) in the area you shoot? I realize different environments host different natural colors and therefore require different contrasts.
I was recently gifted some nice arrows with hot pink feathers and some fluorescent green as well. I was amazed at how visible these were AFTER the shot in a North Woods background...using Bunny Busters, the arrows would generally strike the stumps then flip up in the air. Most times I could see right where they landed without moving a step, while my son's natural turkey feathers sometimes required a bit of back-and-forth searching. I will be building more stumping arrows with this thought in mind for future stumping adventures. What works best in your neck of the woods?

White fletchings on top of a white wrap always seem to work well for me.  I rarely see anything that is pure white in any environment other than snow or limestone so the arrows really stand out

Not orange and yellow... at least, not in New England autumn or in South Texas heat  :biglaugh:

White is my go to in Florida. Highly visible and no offhand remarks you get for more flamboyant choices.

Any shade of blue works good, white for spring and summer, chartreuse is my favorite.  Bohning used to make "rocket red" remined me of a mix of red and orange, I still have some shafts I did a combo dip with it and chartreuse, with chartreuse fletch.  Still carry them in my quiver when hunting.

Hot pink fletch and bright blue crown shows up well in our eucalyptus bush forests here.

Right now with not having any rain for 100+ days and being a desert I like pure white or flo yellow like the wraps in above picture. Flo Orange shows up real good as well.

I found yellow fletch, nock and crown with a blue cock and blue shaft stain show up in most of my spots.  Including under snow.

Pink, orange, chartreuse . . . all good.

Lately I shoot the same colors (and arrows) for everything.  Just glue on different heads.

Make 'em good so you hit the stump and yo don't have to go looking.  ;-)

Jason, those are nice! For years I used white. A couple years back I used pink and like them above white. It’s been said, Chartreuse is best in lower light so I owe it a fair test.

Easton Blues shafts stand out in the grass and woods duff like no other. There is nothing blue in any area I've ever shot in. Except blueberries.
