adding to a riser
« on: July 11, 2018, 09:11:46 PM »
I have a Binghams Hybrid longbow that I built several years ago. I have found out that due to arthritis in my bow hand I can no longer shoot it with the riser being mostly straight up and down. I believe this is called high wrist. What I would like to do is add wood to the riser so I can make it more low wrist, kinda like a Kodiak mag riser. I have been shooting my Mag and have no issues with it, if I shoot my hybrid after about 5 shots I have major pain in my thumb joint. Question is what should I use to glue this up with and do I need to put it back in the oven to cure if I use smooth on.

thanks
Bill

First off, the binghams bow would be low wrist, the Kmag would be high wrist.

I would start by creating a flat surface to glue to. Doesn’t have to be straight, just flat. Then you could either glue in a solid piececut to fit,  or multiple thin layers to build the grip out and recontour to your likings.

Personally, I would you the smooth on, but would not put it back in the oven. Smooth on will cure without heat, just takes longer(24hrs).

Good advice from Brad, can you post a pic?
Stay sharp, Kenny.
