There are 3D tournaments throughout Northern California at different times of the year, but archery clubs around here normally don’t leave their 3D targets out except for tournaments. There is a surprising lack of public outdoor archery facilities in the whole Marin County area, which includes San Rafael. I say that because I have grandchildren there, and would love to take them shooting when I visit, so I keep checking, but no luck. There is a beautiful archery course, with bullseye targets at the Briones regional park near Walnut Creek, which is on the other side of the bay from San Rafael. The course is in the hills and has many interesting targets uphill, downhill, and sidehill. It would be about a 45 minute to an hour drive from San Rafael, depending on traffic. There is an archery range in Golden Gate park in San Francisco, which is flat and Olympic style. There is a trad only tournament near Petaluma, but the course isn’t open to the public at other times. Not much else that I’m aware of that’s anywhere close to San Rafael.
