Cracks in limbs ?
« on: July 26, 2018, 04:45:29 PM »
I have an Older bow that I want to shoot

I saw it had some cracks across the limbs in what I assume is the glass.  Is it safe to shoot or does it need to have some kind of refinishing done to it?
Thank you in advance

Some older bows develop cracks in the finish, which is not a big deal.  If the fiberglass or wood is cracked, that is a big deal.  If you can’t tell yourself how deep the cracks go, you should ask someone who can before you shoot the bow.

Thank you for the reply.
Cracks aren’t deep just able to feel them with a fingernail and see them.
No difference strung or unstrung.  I’ll try my local bow shop to see what they say to be safe.

If these cracks are across the width of the limb, not lengthwise, then it's a 99.9% chance they are just in the finish. In 45+ years of messing with bows I've never seen crosswise cracks that weren't just finish.
