I need to get in the woods
« on: July 26, 2018, 11:25:46 PM »
All of my sets I have will kill deer. With a compound but I now need to adjust them all to 20 yard max shots. I am looking forward to this as I am gonna hunt like a new compound hunter in the thickest stuff I can. I am gonna have my sets basically set so if I see it I can shoot it just like my dad did for me in the 90s. I need to re hang and trim lanes and ensure my Montana has room to strech. I intend to build some natural lean too style blinds just for my Kodiak Mag as its short enough to get away with it. This will be my first year ever hunting totally traditional and I intend to make the best of it. Squirrels are on my hit list and any legal deer will be plastered everywhere so you can all share my trophy. Now If I could just get the skeeters, snakes and temp to back off.
Is it deer season yet?

I would make one recommendation for you to consider for your first trad season. Put out a prominent stake at your maximum shooting distance from your blind. In the excitement, it is very easy to misjudge shooting distance. Lots of us have executed 15 yard shots that wound up measuring 25 yards. As time goes by, this will become unnecessary as the range limitations of traditional gear begins to become second nature. You are really going to enjoy the challenge of trad!

I was on the woods Thursday and Friday checking possible stands from past years , even with the 108 degree temps and skeeters it was great to be doing something hunting related. All my setups are set to where a average shot should be 10-25 yards or so.

Out here in the west, our “woods” are burning up. In Reno the smoke from California fires has us socked in.  I can usually look down at the casinos, but cannot see them today. Sad houses, property and habitat-gone
