The consuming desire of a deer pursuit coursing through one’s veins is just over the horizon.
---Many will be striving to harvest their first deer.
---Others will be thrilled to fill a tag.
---A plethora of hunters will be wanting to fill their freezers
---Some will aspire to harvest their first buck
---Plenty will endeavor to harvest a larger buck
---There will be those with necks so swollen that all consuming passion serves as the catalyst to pursue the buck of dreams.
---A great multitude will share in several, if not many, of the aforementioned objectives.
No matter what the driver, we all share in the marvelous pursuit with traditional equipment.
What stokes your fire?

I've been at this a long time, and where I hunt, we get only one archery tag. I hold out for a mature buck, 3 years or older. Not a lot of those around. That means I get to hunt a lot, and occasionally tag one of those brutes.

Still trying for my first this year. Got close last year but not quite there. Hopefully this is the year!

What stokes my fire is mentoring. It’s like killing your first deer over and over. It never gets old.

All of them minus one too! It's been 4 years since my first harvest and since then I lived in El Paso with little to zero trad hunting opportunity. Only other chance with the stickbow was a close opportunity on a hog at one of the Tom Clum/Shot IQ clinics in Texas. I have gained a lot of confidence and knowledge since then and am ready to get after it. I am back in the Southeast now and will have a place to hunt deer and hogs this season in Georgia. I think this year is my breakout year!

All except number 1 and 4! But especially the one that includes filling the freezer. The wife and I eat a lot of venison and Mississippi has a long and liberal season

It's been 2 years since I have shot at a deer with my bow. My son says i'm getting too picky. With 2 doe tags and a buck tag and being retired, maybe I won't be so picky this year.

I love the sight of my feathers disappearing into the side of a critter!!!!! I get all worked up when I see it. Then I get to feast on said critter for quite a while!!!

The peace and quiet and pure relaxation.
Excitement and adrenaline rush of just seeing a mature buck.
Venison for my family and friends.

Established six rope scrapes in May. Placed a cam on one two weeks ago and just checked it. The first pic had a buck with his nose in the 2"hemp rope. Ten different bucks showed up and one of them was nice. Will post a pic if I capture a goodin….running a 2nd camera now on a different rope scrape.
The excellent intial results stoked the fire.

That snap of a twig or rustle of leaves that for a split second captures my imagination of what is about to step out. The sights, sounds and smells. Heck I'm good with any of it. Let's get this show on the road!

Just sat 14 hours in a swamp last Saturday , had a nice 8 point 15 yards away at 3 but never got into a shooting lane . Have a couple pic of him on a camera from the weekend before.
and here he is walking away , grabbed my phone for a quick parting shot . Was a great start to the year . My sons buddy shot a small 6 with his compound .

Getting equipment ready, building arrows, sharpening broadheads. Looking forward to backstraps, roasts, and barbecued shoulders. Especially if I'm fortunate enough to bring an elk home from Colorado next month...
