UT Mule deer success
« on: August 23, 2018, 12:16:54 AM »
Headed to a spot to sit for the evening in hopes of a thirsty deer, and this little guy made the mistake of letting me have two shots at him  :archer:

Headed back out in a couple days to find an equally willing elk:)

Congratulations !  Let’s hear the particulars....distance of shot, gear used, how far he went. Have to hunt vicariously until it opens up here in NC.

Congratulations !  Let’s hear the particulars....distance of shot, gear used, how far he went. Have to hunt vicariously until it opens up here in NC.

You bet!
First shot was prob a hair over 30 (instinctive shooter) broadside facing to my left just across a dry creeel bed...kissed his brisket hairs as it arc’d low. He moved down the bank a few yards as I moved the second shot.  Realized he didn’t have a good escape route, so backtracked to his original position and I stopped him with a whistle...now standing almost perfectly in his original tracks broadside facing the opposite as before. Second shot was headed for is mark when he decided to leave the scene and I hit him further behind the shoulder than I wanted:(

Traveled around 200 yds before finding his last bed. Good blood trail, which I attribute in part to the Simmons heads I was shooting

Bow is a Morrison 13” ILF riser with TT Blackmax extreme limbs, about 55@28 at my draw. Full length GT 400 arrow with 175 grain Simmons shark up front and a 50 grain insert

Thanks guys, sure is enjoyable to chase critters with a traditional setup, I sure don’t have the harvest rate as I did 15 or so years ago when I shot a wheelie Bow, but I enjoy the hunt and satisfaction far more these days.  Wouldn’t have it any other way
