Don’t feel bad for using the arrow to aim or use as a reference. Check out video. Maybe on masters of barebow. Roger Rotharr(spelling?h his son is on this site often, paints the front end of his arrows white. 
Your allowed to aim and use the point. That’s how you like to shoot then do it. I would recommend like his dad had done and hit it with a quick shot of spray paint n try that.

I remember reading somewhere, I think it was Bows On the Little Delta, that Fred Bear always scraped the black paint off of his arrows so that he could see the arrow better and "gun barrel" the shaft.
