Congrats again to Corey on his elk.  It was actually a perfect heart shot on a broadside animal.

I did find it interesting. . .    I have watched a handful of the Youtube bowhunting vids this summer.  It really is amazing how guys get excited after the hit- when many shots are really terrible. Good grief- many are 10-12" off where they should be. Makes me wonder how many hunts are not published and how many animals are not recovered.   

I am convinced again that bowhunting is best served as a close encounter weapon. And further, many guys really do not know where to hit an animal.

Just some friendly 2C advice. . . .Take the time to study actual anatomy photos and autopsies.  On a true broadside shot- hitting a deer/elk just above the "elbow" and actually putting it through the leg muscle/triangle, center punches the vitals- being the heart/top-of- heart and both lungs.  Quartering away adjusts this accordingly.

Totally agree!!! 4” behind the shoulder and real low is nothing but guts. I’ve seen many folks talk about how they “smoked” a deer with that shot, but for some reason, couldn’t find it!

Just checked his post, he was shooting his 52# Zona recurve.  Using single bevel Magnus Classic broadhead weighing 584 grains.

I'm thinking that it hit the opposite leg and bounded back giving the appearance of less penetration. Had it happen several times. Too fast to be seen in real time.

Yeah, it looked like it hit the offside shoulder. When he pulled the arrow out while breaking it down, the tip was split and one side curled on the head.

Doesn't sound like the Magnus I used to know. It would indicate that it hit something pretty dang hard.

Mr Charlie it hit the offside knuckle. I was in a trees stand and the downward angle had the exit lower than the entrance.

Interesting to me too. .   Note the elk cut-away. When the leg goes FORWARD the scapula pivots DOWNWARD slightly.  I hear many guys saying they wait for the leg to go forward and they shoot. You're better shooting above that elbow as the leg comes BACK. The scapula actually pivots up and out of the way.
