Bears at a walking pace over-step, which means that the hind foot steps into the track of the front foot. That is clearly visible here as you can see the elongated imprint of the heel inside the track of the front foot. That makes the track appear bigger to those that are unfamiliar with the gait of a walking bear. Still, knowing the size of the Zwickey Delta as comparison, this is a decent sized bear.

I'm looking at the width across the 5 front toes and it looks like a good boar to me.It's hard to scale up a photograph but it looks maybe 5" across. That's a big bear in this country.

Yes Sir...familiar with that I was not really making the lenght out as to the size, but more the width and the toes plus claws.

Thanks everyone...I stalked 4 bears this weekend, and this was left by one of them....

Yeah Ted...my luck for sure....

I killed one that had a really nice sized head, that of a 250#er, and she was 10 years old and she only weighed 149.  Her head was way bigger than the proportion of her head.

I asked the game warden about it....and he said that her being that old and in the mountains, she probably had two or three cubs over the last couple of years, that the 2 year drought and the cubs draining her, she lost a lot of weight.
