The fire helped me find...
« on: September 10, 2018, 12:41:48 AM »
The Carr fire (230,000 acres burned and still going) ripped through my hunting area where I took my bear last year, but I was finally able to kayak up there today to see the damage:

That was right where I hit the bear in that last picture. This is where he made it to. It used to be thick with manzanita bushes:

Before the fire, I have been back in to the area quite a few times and always spent some time trying to find the front end of my arrow. Today, the bush it was hiding in was gone:

My Zwickey may be a bit more tempered than it was but it looks like I could still use it. Can't kill those Eskimos.

That's pretty cool! Hopefully that area will still produce for you after the fire. Should start getting lots of new growth I would assume.

That is a fascinating story.  I think I would have to clean that head up, resharpen and use again.  :cheesy:

Yeah, it should be good next year.

How do the animals recover from something like that?  Seems like a horrible situation for them.

Nice finding that. My platoon mate almost lost his home, he’s along Clear Creek near where the road goes over it. From your pictures I can see the damage he described.

Sorry to hear about the damage caused by that fire. Pretty neat that you were able to find the front end of your arrow though.
