What spine would you shoot in this set up?
« on: September 12, 2018, 11:56:10 AM »
It's a 56" Toelke Pika 52@28, draw is 29.5".  Shooting around 225 grains up front.

I have been trying bareshaft tuning and i'll share those results later.  Just curious where everyone else would start or assume you finish?

The arrow will have to be at least 31".

400s would work full length but may be a bit stiff cut 29.5.

If the bow is #52 @28 you are probably at 55-56.  Given the length of the arrow - 31" - and 225 is a lot up front, and I don't know if that bow is center cut - maybe 400 but maybe 340?

Like mentioned above I don't know if that bow is centercut. I shoot a 59 pound longbow with 31" 500's and 200 up front that bare shaft like darts. I guess since your draw weight is just a tad lower than mine, that 225 up front might make the 500 work for you as well.

I'd go 340s.

400's or possibly 500 micro-diameter carbons...depends on how badly you'll be plucking the string though Daniel!   :biglaugh:

Joe, it's funny you say that.  I'm almost positive that my release is the reason for all this confusion and chaos.  When I was bareshafting, the only arrow that flew like a dart was the .340 spine.  While I was trimming down a 400 it was getting straighter and straighter with each trim.  I skipped a few cuts and just grabbed a .340 and viola, it worked.  But, as several people eluded too, I feel that I SHOULD be shooting a .400.

Don't let what "should" be dictate your choice.  The bow's performance will show you.  I have bows that measure the same specs yet shoot slightly different arrows.  Each bow has a unique power stroke and performance.  Your own form, release, etc. also dictates.   The length of your arrow means so much...I'd expect the need for a .340 spine with that long of a draw and 225 up front, and a 31" arrow.
