Fall turkey
« on: September 18, 2018, 08:53:15 AM »

When it’s too hot to hunt deer you do something else. Fifteen yard shot, 15 yard recovery. Equipment....DAS Gen l riser, Morrison max 4 limbs (love them), Axis 400 shaft, 200 grain 3 blade Razorcap broadhead. Turkey was an adult male. There were 5 of them in a bachelor group and this one stopped to see what I was. Big mistake. Last one in line, as well.

Too hot to hunt deer, but not too hot to hunt turkey? I don't get it.
Nice bird though... congrats.

For me to hunt deer our property is in another town and about 3/4 mile walk. In two days l dropped 5 lbs. because I am a sweater. I decided to stay home as we have several flocks that often travel through our 5 acres here. I'll be 75 in Nov. and while I have the physical ability to do the walk, hunt and drag, I find being uncomfortable to be less appealing as I age. Besides, the turkeys were plentiful, somewhat predictable, etc., not to mention convenient. So when it is hot, too cold, or otherwise difficult to get "out there" at the end of the day I can stay home. We do have deer here and an occasional bear  so even on tough days I can get out right in my "yard". Here's a pic my wife took from her home office window this summer.
