Thanks everyone , I did take another doe on opening day as well but didn't get a very good pic. I do say a prayer of thanks to the animal and the four winds , leaving some special tobacco behind.
Susan : I was hunting the swamp stand I moved into a big oak this year after a move last year that left me wanting to be a little more down the fence line. I have a camera there and had taken the card into the stand to check before daylight. I found all the pics where before 9:30 a.m. or in the evening so the plan was to hunt till 9:30. I heard some splashing coming from the end of the swamp and knew they where on the way and kept an eye out that way. I watched as the fog rolled in and a nice doe appeared from the fog followed by a smaller one then a medium doe and finally a small buck. Now I'm not one to let a chance slip by but though she was under ten yards and had no idea I was there for about five minutes turning and giving me many shots i just didn't feel it at that moment and let her walk away. Now I am busy watching skweeeerls and such thinking it's almost time to leave and here she comes running back in . I am caught off guard and the shock sent me right into shoot mode without a second thought . I waited until she was broad side @ ten yards and started to draw but she caught me but wasn't scared just looked up then went back to normal , it's now game on . I let her move left a little more and start to draw again and she catches me once more but isn't really spooked. Now she is within 10 yds so its close and the oak i'm in is huge so she can't really make out what that big skweeeerl is doing . I let her move left more and as her head goes behind a 6 inch tree I start my draw again very slow and see her looking around the tree at me but continue to draw as she takes a couple half steps back. She still has no idea what is going on and I make it to full draw as she is standing still slightly quartering away and I release and at the hit I knew she was all in , no question . The trail was short and easy to follow maybe 40 yds and then the work begins but I'm smilling the rest of the day. Thanks for listening. Drew
