Some photos from a trip to Wyoming. I used a Kanati longbow. 59lb@30" with a 250 gr 3 blade VPA. Total arrow weight was 665 grains.
I was in a tree stand when a buck snuck in behind me over my right shoulder. When I saw him he was just a few yards away. I turned to my right for a better look, then noticed a second larger buck coming that would be even closer to my tree.
The second buck was walking and would pass right behind the tree. I had to quickly try a silent complete rotation to the left to get a shot off my left shoulder as he passed at 5 paces from the tree.
Neither deer caught my movement and I was able to make a close range shot as the bigger buck passed. The arrow entered high behind the shoulder and exited the opposite side low from his armpit. The VPA took out everything that was necessary. He ran up hill 25 yards and stood for just a few seconds until his powerful legs gave out.
I'm usually looking for a close shot and not too concerned about horn size. This is a fair sized animal for the area. There were bigger deer around but getting a close shot on them can burn up hunting days quickly.
