I have had the pleasure of shooting Steves Bows for the 5 years or so and have also shared a few hunting camps with him.
I have yet to meet a more genuine say it like he sees it kinda guy. With Steve what you see is what you get. That is a hard trait to find these days. We live in a world of false fronts, fair weather friends, and skeletons in the closet. In Steve's world none of that applies or is accepted, with the exception of skeletons in his closet, But those are just skulls and antlers not yet mounted...lol.
As a Bowyer he is incredible. Being friends with him (as many of you are and know) Steve burns more bows then he delivers (maybe a slight but not too far off exaggeration). He is a perfectionist in the purest form. In everything he does and his discipline in all aspects of life. No short cuts, no fingernail polish, no cheating, just honest pure perfection or its to the wood burner and starting over. 2 of my 3 bows he has made me so far were second attempts, even when i told him "im not worried about that little imperfection" he would say "dont care if you are ok with it, I'm not and that crap doesn't leave my shop with my name on it".
There are so many great bowyers out there today that build fantastic bows. Interesting side note: Steve is friends with many of them and they help each other out in so many different ways. I get accused often of being too big of a Northern Mist Fan, But I wear that badge with pride as he is as good as they get and his bows are above top shelf in every way. Keep doing what you do Steve and keep being who you are. Im proud to shoot your bows and call you a friend. Heck I have developed great friendships with a few of you on this post because of Steve!
Great Post Roger! Thanks For sharing this.
