Toelke Chinook impression?
« on: September 26, 2018, 08:23:05 PM »
First off, I have a Great Northern Super Ghost I really like. To me, it’s just about perfect for me. Only thing is I wished it came in a 2 piece TD version. I know the Ghosts came with the jack knife td version, but the super ghost is 1 piece only.

For those whose shot or owned both, how does the Toelke Chinook compare to a Super Ghost as far as feel or quietness? Cut to center like the sg? I’ve never shot a Chinook, but the Super Ghost is one, if not the quietest recurve I’ve shot. A TD Chinook would be a handy option for travel to the sg, if it was similar to me.

Any opinions or impressions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Mike

I think the chinook is better in every way, smoother, quieter, better grip and faster.  You won't ne disappointed.

Its the only thing l have shot that l like almost as much as my Javaman Helmsdeep. It 'feels' like a recurve. The helmsdeep is a similar package but 'feels' like a longbow in my opinion. Just to give you some info.

I have had my Chinook about a year and it shoots better and quieter
than my other 8 custom recurves. Quiet, No hand shock and Fast...

It is the ultimate bow or me.

Chinook is a great bow and I have never had any issues with the several bow bolts I have owned.

Every bow has the ability to be quiet. A lot depends on the archer pulling the string. I know that release and form both affect the noise a bow can make. I know the Super Ghost I had was almost silent.........butwhen I sold it to my friend it got loud......just because of his release.

I've got a Chinook that is my go to bow when hunting.  It is the most quiet recurve I have ever shot and hits where I look.  Beautiful to look at too (Zirocote riser with Myrtle limb veneers).  I love the thumb rest and don't think I will ever get rid of it.

Best of luck.

I have the classic grip on mine and like it a lot. Don't know about the thumb rest.

Mike I have owned the Super Static 64" and kicked myself for selling that one.  I think that a 60" Chinook you would not be disappointed.  The Toelke I had shot very forgiving and quiet, really like the endless bowstrings he uses.  If I had my druthers and get the money to buy another one I would get the classic grip without the thumbrest.

I’ve never shot a GN Super Ghost and I’m sure they are a fine bow. That being said, I am a huge Toelke fan and love my 2pc Chinook. Not only is it a beauty to look at, but it’s fast, quiet and hits where I’m looking. It’s grip is slightly fuller than my Pika but it fits my hand perfectly. Mine is 60” 48#@28”.

I tried to post pics of my Chinook but apparently they are too large and I don’t know how to resize them.

Never shot a super ghost but owned a 2pc Chinook = fast and QUIET!  I had 3 "go to bows" at the time and only sold it because I gravitate to my Hybrids...
