Yes, only 1 buck before gun and only 2 by any method. We used to get 2 with bow and another with gun.
I told the guys I stirred up a hornets nest for them. They say they aren't writers, so I will give the Reader's Digest version as I know it.
First day Ray saw a nice 8 at 10 yards and passed it. He saw some bucks cross a field so next morn he put a climber up a tree there where they went in. 2 bucks came in and he shot the bigger one. With a twig deflection, it was a paunch shot. He did everything right IMO by sitting in stand for a couple hours and then waiting about 6 hours to look for him.
We looked for about 4 1/2 hours with 4 drops of blood to go on in a couple hundred yards. Nothing. The brush was shoulder high and nearly impenetrable . You could only see a few feet from you.
He went back the next day and listened for yotes in the early morning and then made some sweeps just looking. Saw some vultures get up and they were on the deer. With the temps in the 70s and 30 hours later, the meat was spoiled. He played it as well as possible but it happens.
I need a tracking dog.
Aldo's buck came in with another smaller buck this morning in a stand he hung after seeing deer there from the new gap stand. Pretty short story here, he shot the one, it ran 50 yards, fell, got up and fell again for good . The smaller buck stood around the stand for 15 minutes and looked around.
This is the best I remember the happenings of the week. They saw several other bucks , lots of does, more turkeys than I thought we had, and had a good time, and want to come back if possible.
I hope they come back, I really enjoyed visiting with both of them!!
Told as it was told to me... (I hope)
