Well here’s to hoping the weather cooperates this weekend. Forecast looks promising for Saturday morning movement. I hear they’re finally saying some frost around SW Michigan. Good luck to all who get out.

Looking forward to tomorrow evening when I get to head back to camp until Tuesday. Monday may be a little wet, but I need some woods time. Should be decent movement with the cold weather.

I have sat 8 times since October 1st. The farmer is cutting corn, so it has either been feast or famine. Thursday night I sat in one of my slam dunk spots. I ALWAYS see at least small bucks here.....it is littered with rubs, all up and down this corridor of brush between swamp and crop fields. NOTHING.

Friday night, I sat in a spot 60 yards from there...usually not as good but productive. When I climbed in, I saw a 4 point bedded 40 yards away. He watched me climb in, get settled, and never spooked. He stayed there all evening, and was joined by his pals. At one point, I had 4 bucks and 6 does playing grab a$$ within 40 yards of me. I am not terribly choosy....but we have a whopper of a buck hanging around (my son missed him a week ago), so I held off. Some deep grunting in the swamp, and the reaction of the smaller bucks, told me SOMETHING bigger was near. But no luck.

Yesterday, between Danny and I we saw 3 does.

They are out there, but it sure aint a grocery store. Some pics for the first part of the season;

We got about 2 inches of fresh snow this morning so I went out this evening hoping that the snow would get the deer moving. I didn't see a single track. However, I still had plenty of excitement.
I was sitting by an old 2 track that borders a swamp and hardwoods. I was about 30 yards from the two track on the hardwoods side since the deer have been using an old logging road that cut up one of the valleys. As I was sitting there, I saw a shape move between some cedars. Although I've never seen one, I knew instantly what it was based on the way it was moving. A second shape drifting through confirmed it. A few seconds later a huge gray wolf trotted up onto the two track, followed by a smaller black wolf. I couldn't believe it! They both trotted down the road until they hit my trail where I walked in. Both of their noses went to the ground, then they both just stared in the direction that I had gone. They never saw me since I had circled around a bit, but it was kind of eerie just watching them, especially when the smaller one took a few steps following my tracks. They both turned though and kept trotting down the road out of sight. After they were gone I went and took some pictures of the tracks, which were huge! An awesome sunset capped off an exciting evening. No deer, but it was an awesome hunt!
Unfortunately every time I try and upload the pictures something crashes. Not sure why. I hate computers. :banghead:

Finally figured out how to use my game cameras and all my bucks seem to me in the 2300-0500 time frame for showing up..Hopefully the rut will kick in with the cooler weather and shorter days coming...

Any sign of chasing yet guys? I've seen a few bucks coming by after some does have past but they don't seem to be worked up yet. It has to be close. At least in my neck of the woods.

I saw a buck chasing a doe on Halloween while out shining but haven't seen any confirmed chasing while hunting. Last weekend I saw a buck running with a doe, but they split up so I don't know what was going on. Tonight I saw two does and two fawns but no bucks.

Bucks are chasing the does behind my house but they are small ones. Showing up at all times of the day on my camera just cruising. Heard grunting all evening in the brush but even with 6 does in front of me he wouldn't show himself...Supposedly a couple good ones around my neighbor has been seeing..Up north seeing lots of sign but not much on my cameras. The one buck I saw was a mule deer looking 4 point that was all business with his head in the air just sniffing

I had one of those moments we probably have all had at 8:10 this morning. A lone 4pt. suddenly appeared out of nowhere heading in my direction. I was so ready. Standing with bow at the ready. He kept coming and coming and at 10yds. came back to anchor and purposely aimed low just knowing he would drop at the shot. You guessed it. He didn't react until my arrow sailed below him and hit the dirt. Ugh. You just never know what a whitetail will do. Sure makes it interesting. Last year I had two misses right over the deer's back before I connected so I was determined to aim low. There you have it. I am thankful it was a clean miss.
