I Killed a Monster....
« on: October 25, 2018, 04:13:37 PM »
Been raining for a month here in my part of Texas so hunting has been limited at best , everything is flooded or a mud hole. Spent the last few weeks working on our camp and getting stands ready for company. Stalker Stickbows pulled into camp at about 5am after a straight through drive from Colorado. We put South and his daughter in a ground blind and Jake in another across the field then headed to stands ourselves. I made my stand about 30min before sunrise and along about daylight a few doe came in feeding around. Then here he came a nice wide 8pt whitetail buck in all his glory , came strutting in like he owned the place. He was a solid buck and given the chance I was about to let an arrow fly....

Sorry been entertaining our guests...

So this is a real nice buck and he is standing at about 12yds , I’m just letting it get a little more light out before I shoot. Very overcast this morning so good light is slow coming but it is legal shooting hours just want more light for the camera. As I’m waiting for better light the deer spook and kinda walk off behind me but I still have a good wind so I’m playing it cool. But now I see why they had spooked off a small sounder of hogs was working towards me. As they get closer I see a giant boar across the creek walking parallel to them but he can’t cross the flooded creek bed. Check back behind me and the deer are feeding around calmly now and working back to me. Then I hear a little commotion and look back to see a big boar with the group of pigs working my way. The one across the creek is still there so this is a new arrival and he has my complete attention. I switch over broadheads to a narrow single bevel and now am in hog mode , I will shoot the buck another day. So with plenty of light now and my hat camera rolling I’m ready for some pork.......

So they work into my hide and I have them in front of me for quite a long time before the boar gives me a good shot. Now camera rolling and locked at full draw it’s now or never , the shot looks good and he bolts off back the way the came from and I see him go over the rise down into the bottom land. I text the guys I had shot a hog and South texted back he had killed a doe and can see her from the stand. We give it a while before we meet up to track my hog. The hog had ran toward where Jake was at so I figured I would look over the rise on my way to get him. Went to the spot I saw him go over and there he was dead as a hammer , I walked over to him and oh my what big teeth he had. I now head over to Jakes blind witch I can see from my prize hogs location. I take him over and show him the pig then we go over to get help , my buddy Donald has already went for the game cart. All the roads are to muddy to drive on so it’s going to be manpower and I’m glad I had the help. Over at South’s location we all meet up and he had heart punched a doe so now we have 2 critters to wheel back to camp. We tell our stories and have handshakes and head over to my hog. Also keep in mind the one I saw across the creek was bigger so maybe before this hunt is over someone will get a crack at that guy. Anyway pictures were taken and the work started and I was sure glad we had the cart ( well they were glad as South and Jake did 90% of the pulling). Was a great start to the hunt , I caped him out for a shoulder mount as well. I always wanted one mounted and he fits the bill......

Pictures don’t do him justice...

South’s little girl is a kick in the pants , she is as sweet as can be and seems to be having a big time. She is getting all up in whatever action is going on...
