HELP tie on nocks!!
« on: October 27, 2018, 02:40:08 PM »
I need some help, either where to find the old mono serving, or how to get Halo to work with tie on nocks.

The Halo seems very slick, I put some diamondback over it for nocks and they were either too tight or would slide, can't reach a happy medium.

So , thinking the halo was bigger than the Diamondback , I reversed all of it and served with Diamond and nocked with halo. No good.

Sooo, I left the DB serving and put a nock of DB on it and no good!!

I've put a lot of tie ons over the old black mono and loved it but can't find a source now. HELP  :banghead:

Stay sharp, Kenny.

As best I can remember, diamondback isn't a solid braid.  It's a sheath over a core.  That's probably the problem.  Why not use Halo over Halo?

Roger practically (or literally?  I forget...it was really cheap or free) gave away a huge (5 or 10#) spool of mono at the ETAR this year.

If you keep having trouble let me know and I'll send you some samples of BCY nock tying thread.  It should work just fine over Halo.

Chad, I used halo over halo and same results. Using 10 strands of the bcyx , maybe too skinny?

Dang that's a tiny string!  Yep, that may very well be at least part of the problem.  I like 18-20, depending on what nock is being used on the arrows.  Still not a "fat" string at all.

10 strands of bcyx is an awful skinny string.

I use 18 to 20 strands like Chad does.

With 10 the nocks snap on just right, isn’t 18 really tight?
Stay sharp, Kenny.

“Just right” is a matter of opinion.  Just right for a split finger shooter may be unacceptably loose and fall off the string for a 3 under shooter.  If 10 strands is strong enough, and you like the fit, you should be able to find something that will work for a tied on string nock.

Yes, I shoot split and like them to just bump when they go on, not snap on.  Maybe a strip of duct tape? LOL

Your string nocks need to be made of a larger diameter material than the serving to work properly.

If you use Ryan's tightening method, https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=j8EghWvyUcA&feature=youtu.be which is to make a loop and pull tight with 1/2” pvc or something similar, it should stick.  I use 3 Rivers bowfishing line https://www.3riversarchery.com/braided-nylon-bowfishing-line.html for my tied on nocks, because I like something a little thicker than bowstring or serving, but it should work either way.

Here’s what I’m using however I’m running 14 strands of bcy B55 served with it.

Once I get it tied in I have to fiddle a little to get it to twist. So far have a few hundred shots on 2 different bows and does not move unless you move it.

It's a coated nylon (twisted), around .020.  A bit elastic, so hit holds a knot well and melts really good.  Comes in black or red.

I use Chad's nock tying thread he is talking about. Not ever a problem with it. I usually tie 7 to 8 over hand knots over a piece of looped fast flight string and pull the loose ends  back under the knots I tied then cut the loose ends of and melt them with a lighter.

I use Halo for my serving, and BCY Nock Tying Thread to tie my Nock points. They never move unless I want them to!

I use 12 strands of BCY D'02 for my endless strings, #4 nylon for the loop servings, .019" Halo for the center serving, and B-50 dacron or braid serving for the one nocking point that's multiple overhand knotted with the final double knot melted and then the entire nocking point is coated with Hot Stuff CYA.  The arrow nock always under the string's nock point.

Kenny,
I think I have one or two spools of black mono.  If you want them, give me your address and I will send them.
