Leather arm guard with knife
« on: November 01, 2018, 10:54:10 AM »
I'm looking to get arm guard with a knife. Anyone ever use, is it comfortable and convenient like it looks or bulky and stupid? Who makes your favorite? 2 that I know of are JPE archery and far west leather but never had 1 in hand. Thanks in advance

If I had so much stuff on my belt or pack that I didn't have room there I might consider it.  Some of them look sort of cool but can't see them being anything much more than a gimmick. :coffee:

I have one and I love the way it looks, but in practical application, it is more of a gimmick.  I have put it on my basket backquiver and get a lot of comments on it.

I owned one by Farr West like the one pictured above by Trad Bowhunter. Unfortunately I lost it on a hunt in Oklahoma. Another Trad Gang member "Harl" read about my loss and sent me  a Farr West armguard with bear track, no knife,to soften the blow. Every time I venture into the woods with bow in hand I think of "Harl's" generosity. The knife is nice but a costly addition. Most good leather crafters can make what you want if you provide the knife. Good luck with your search.

I tried one by Scott T. for a while and didn't like it.  It just added bulk and weight to a place where I typically use my armguard to pull the bulk out of the way.  While I loved the looks and thought of it, when push came to shove it was quite impractical for hunting in my opinion.  I now keep my knife either on my belt or in my pack.  I use a tooled leather guard that I made for myself with no lining to keep it thinner that tucks away a jacket/shirt sleeve really well and over a large area.

I have one from Tim, and I like it. You don't even know the knife is there.
