I have been bow hunting for about 7 years total out of the last 15 years or so, with about a 7 year break until last summer, only ever killing some squirrels and grouse, and never had an opportunity to take a shot at anything full size.
After missing an easy 6 yard shot at a doe about two weeks ago, during the last weekend of bow season, (right over her back, duh), I determined to keep on hunting with a bow throughout rifle season.
Last weekend, I was presented with the exact same set up on a doe, and connected with the arrow going through both shoulders, up to the feathers, and breaking off, with the long part of the shaft falling out the far side.
She went all of about 50 yards and piled up. Got her through both lungs and couldn't be happier.
I have two elk tags still, which I am not even considering rifle hunting for.
I had more close encounters this year with bulls than in all my other time in the woods combined. It would have been a great season based on that alone.
