11/9/18 Ohio Buck
«

With the east wind in the morning I elected to stay home and take care of a few things. I knew it was going to switch west around mid day. I grabbed a bite and showered around 11:30 and I was in the tree by 12:30. I set up off a big primary scrape that I have had several good bucks using in daylight. With the wind being parallel to the scrape I knew it was enough to make any approaching buck feel safe and it was enough of a angle to work to my advantage. At 1:40 I caught movement and I could see immediately it was one of the bucks frequenting the scrape. I made ready and knew he would pass by at 12 yards before hitting the scrape behind me. I watched him looking at the scrape at around 30 yards from it and I knew he was coming to check it. As he stepped into the shooting lane I picked a tuft of hair behind his left shoulder and let the Douglas Fir shaft go. It blew through both lungs and I knew he was dead on his feet. I watched him stumbling going over the ridge to the south and figured he would be laying not far from the last point I could see him. With the fresh snow on the ground I could see the blood painted on the trees and on the ground from the stand. After giving him time I took up the trail and made the recovery. After taking a few minutes to calm my emotions I knelt with the fallen Monarch and thanked him for the chess match this season and the Lord for these amazing animals and to be blessed with the opportunity to chase them. They are incredible animals and my respect for them will always be the reason Whitetails are a year round lifestyle for me and my family. I was shooting my 55# Tall Tines longbow and a 615 grain Douglas Fir shaft with a 160 grain VPA head.

Congrats!! That's a dandy!!
With the wind being parallel to the scrape I knew it was enough to make any approaching buck feel safe and it was enough of a angle to work to my advantage.
Sounds like a line I remember out of Whitetail Magic.

Well done! I will be hunting Ohio and Indiana for the next solid week, looking for bucks like that!
