Montana Muley
« on: November 10, 2018, 12:10:25 PM »
So this year i drew my moose tag, which i posted about a month ago, and also a muley tag in a very limited area. Both tags took 15 years to draw. So with the rut coming i decided to get serious about sticking a mature buck with my bow. Yesterday morning i went for a drive to check out the properties i have permission to. After awhile i found this guy scent checking a group of does...

Since it was 19 degrees with no wind I knew trying to sneak in on this guy would be impossible. I hoped he would stay in the area, and made a plan to come back early afternoon and hang a stand. I came back around 3 and found a suitable tree. I bumped out two does when setting up and hoped he would come to scent check them. I was only in the stand about 10 minutes when I saw him get up in a CRP field about 300 yards out. Some does were getting up to feed and I soon saw him headed my way checking them. The does passed by about 60 yards away and I was afraid he would follow them. Luck was on my side as he rubbed a bunch of brush and stuck to the creek bottom. He slowly came with the wind right in his face. As he walked by at 15 yards I shot and knew he was done. Not 30 yards later he tipped over. Even got it all on video. My first Muley and true to my roots I had to get him Whitetail style out of a stand. Got him with the bow my wife got from Gene Wensel for my birthday.
