Kansas doe
« on: November 14, 2018, 07:25:49 PM »
My season has had a couple bumps, but I finally put it together and took a small doe last Saturday.

She came in with another yearling-- no mama. When she finally went broadside in shooting range, I had to shoot over one limb and right of another. The window was large enough and I had plenty of time to formulate; but, this did cause me to shoot a little high and back taking the very back of one lung and punching a hole through her liver.
She wheeled at the shot, ran back up thru the cut she'd come through, spun a tight circle, and crashed 70 yards away. Always a blessing when they fall in sight! Thank you Jesus!
A fellow tradganger got to follow his first blood trail and field dress. We didn't get a lot of pictures-- it was cold! 8 deg when we woke up that morning! My contact lense solution had frozen my contacts in their case, our hydration bladders were frozen, my Clif bar was frozen, and I couldn't fill out my tag--- yep, pen was frozen. We spent a lot of hours in the tree, saw a lot of critters, and were happy to come home with something in the cooler-- which didn't require ice! Frozen.
