Kalamazoo and the 5 shot challenge
« on: November 24, 2018, 09:03:33 PM »
Hey, I was thinking about going to Kalamazoo. I can't find a vendor list anywhere ( I checked Great Northern's site too) I was hoping to try a few out like; Toelke, big jim, shrew....Also interested in the 5 shot challenge. Rules are a little vague. Was gonna practice it a little. any info would be appreciated/ Thanks

The 5 shot challenge sounds interesting. What's that all about? Kzoo is an hour from my place. I'll be there.

I think the way it works is you have 5 shots from hunting type situations, like from a blind, sitting down, etc. For a good hit, you get a certain amount of time deducted from your total time, and for bad shots and misses you get time added. That's how I understood it anyways. Thought it looked fun but only did the 3D shoot, not the five shot last year.

No vendor list yet but it should be close, vendors had until last week to get there registrations back. Vendors don't change to much so if you look at last years list it should be very close this year.

Hi Speedbump,

Trenton G is correct. The fastest 5 times are brought back at the end of the day for 1 more round. The winner of that round gets the $$$ provided by Great Northern.

PS, My name is Rob, I and a few others from my club (Potawatomi Bowmen) run the shoot at the Expo...  :archer2:

After you get done shooting, stop by the many vendors booths, and find time to attend a seminar or two. I will be talking my "Solo Spirit" during a presentation of my back country wilderness hunts in solitude. Mike

Been to the show for the past 3 years. It's a blast!
Unfortunately I won't be able to make it this year, but I'm looking forward to seeing pictures!

Here was my first round walk through of the 5 shot challenge.  They set each shot up so basically your going to be contorting your body for each shot, as well as having to hold your bow at different angles for each shot.

Even though it's 'speed', everyone walked through at a brisk pace.

Cool video GV! Yes it's a "timed" event, but the bonuses for accuracy more than make up for actual speed.

Yep.  The sitting shot was the most difficult for me.  I had to practice that one over and over when I got home.  My body is just not meant to contort that way.  It's essentially a very closed stance and I simply couldn't get to full draw.  But...I've got an adjustment for it.
