« on: November 26, 2018, 06:05:04 PM »
Here's the one I posted the tiller pics of a couple weeks ago.

The specs:
62" NTN, 52#'s @ 28", Bamboo/Maple/Osage Lamination
Forward Handle- Live Oak (from a branch of the tree the bow is resting on in the pics)
Belly Handle- thin strips of Live Oak, purple heart, cocobolo
8 coats of Tru Oil Rubbed with Pumice mixture
Greenish color wood dye on the bamboo

That you all for the kind words.  This build was inspired by the forward handle designs I see here; in particular the ones that Ritchie, Kenny, and Crooked Stic make.

I was gonna comment on the bow on PA, but since I'm here... that's a mighty fine trilam!  I had the thought of making my next trilam in a forward handle configuration, and now that I've seen yours, I definitely will.  The tiller is a thing of beauty (along with the braced and unbraced profiles... so in other words, the whole thing is beautiful :P ).

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Go for it Ty.  The tricky part is getting the forward handle glued up with no gaps.  The glass bow builders are experts on that if you need some pointers.

Yeah, I keep up on the "make it fit perfectly" threads.  I've had a fun enough time trying to get a "simple" Hill-style riser even with the lams on the belly side.  I'll give it a crack, though, as I really like the look of them.

Just don't accept "good enough".  It needs to be almost perfect.  These gaps kept popping up.  I think I did 5 or 6 test runs and sanding sessions before the gaps were gone.

Thats true Ben I have learned to enjoy doing it , its like a game to me now but the more you do it the easier it gets you kind of develope a eye for it but the guys with templet sanders have it easier ! The more radius the more fun  :cheesy:
