Whats on your Trad work list for 07?
« on: December 31, 2006, 08:37:00 PM »
G'day all,

Well with a little time off over the Christmas brake I just got around to splicing up some feathers for a set of arrows for my wife and her new bow.
I got to thinking, what are all the nifty TradGangers planning on doing with there gifted hands in 2007?

I'll start. I'm planning on footing arrows with the 4 foot method. I traded something for a Footing jig sold in 3Rivers. I'm sure you all will see the up and comming thread on it.

How bout you, whats your plans?    :coffee:

Oh and a lot of hunting too!

My bunny Hunt is coming up and I will be making arrows for our raffle and getting an older bow ready and looking good for the raffle as well. Making nutters and my son-in-law and I are gonna build a bow or two, which will be a first for me and him. Shawn

I have a bunch of bow rebuilds to do. Dropping poundage on a bow I made my brother, reworking a hickory bow I made for a friend almost ten years ago and retillering a 5 or 6 wood bows a friend gave to me when health and personal problems forced him out of archery.

Most of my friend's donated bows are salvage projects. He is a lefty so as I rework them I will give them to left handed kids.

After hunting season ends the bow building bug strikes me so I wanted to tie up loose ends early so I can make a few new bows.

If I ever run out of bows to make I have my first flintlock build waiting for me. The parts have been gathering dust for over a year now.

Make a bunch of arrows, some for me, others for donations.
Make some arrow display plaques for the St. Jude's auction. (I've got some special collectable arrows to mount on them)
Finish my first self bow.
Make some knife handles for some Helle blades that I have laying around.
Maybe a new leather hip quiver.

I'm planning on making aTD long bow and a one-piece longbow, both glass laminated.  I'd kind of like to make a child's longbow for my club to raffle, but I'm a little concerned over liability, both the club's and my own.  We'll see.  I also need to make a set of woodies and a basket quiver to go with the one piece longbow.  You'll probably see the set on here one day soon.

I hope to finally harvest an osage off a friends farm.  Been meaning to for years.  I also want to design a small longbow for kids.  First for my nephew, and then, maybe for some donations.  Dave's words also weigh heavily on my mind.  Do any of our attorneys out there have any guidance along the liability lines ..if I do not sell it, but rather donate it ?

Refinish my t/d longbow. It's been beat around a bit this year.
Finish a second backup t/d lb
Repair a handle on a bow I made.
Try out the hex shafts. Just got a dozen.
Shoot one last deer here in Jan.
Shoot a few turkeys in the spring with the refinished lb.
Find and go to some trad rendevous and shoots.
Get my youngest a higher poundage bow.

I am currently putting the finishing touches on an Osage selfbow. Next I have to make up a few more arrrows for a hog/goat  hunting trip that my buddies and I are taking in Texas the end of this month. I have a yew stave and want to make my first yew selfbow and I will start that when we return from Texas. Spring turkey season will be on my list in April and May. A shoot at my place in June with buddies and MoJam in July. Sept. will be elk hunting in Idaho and I will get back just in time for the Iowa bow season opener. I should be able to get a couple of Osage selfbows compete in between the above. Dang, life is good.

I bought 3 dozen shafts from 3 Rivers (cedar, birch, and fir) so I'll be making some arrows.  Got started today by sorting the cedars by weight and painting the feather end of six of them and polying the other 6 ends.  Next will be to build a some kind of cresting jig so I will be able to put a simple crest on them.  Next will probably start working on the birch ones.

Figure out some arrow splicing / footing / repair because I break way too many.

Another Helle knife or five.

Another pen and ink drawing for the St. Jude's auction.
Directions: Hike, camp, hunt, fish, wash, rinse, repeat.
