ILF longbow setup

Hi!

Do any of you guys shoot your ILF risers with longbow limbs? How do they shoot and tune? And do you use longbow or recurve strings and does that even matter wich style of string you use?

I'm thinking of buying TT ILF longbow limbs from Lancaster but there is not much info on them on the webs.

I have been shooting Ilf longbow limbs for a couple of years now.  Win Win Black Wolf a Centaurs is my goto set up. IMHO I believe they are easier to tune than recurve limbs. Personally I have always used longbow strings my by 10X.

I shoot tradtech longbow limbs on a vpa vapor riser and it's a very nice shooting bow. Very quiet and dead in the hand. It's a 58 inch bow so very handy when hunting from the ground. I'd definitely use a longbow string as the tips are very small and slender and the top loop of a recurve string could be prone to slipping off. The limbs are very smooth and pretty fast too. Chronoed mine the other day at 50.5 pounds at my 29.5" with a 530 grain arrow at 177.

I have an old set of Trad Tech ILF long bow limbs limbs on a 17" riser. I'm primarily a hunter and really like it. A 3" shorter string (than bow length) should work. I make my own strings flemish twist or endless but usually go with with a flemish on my bows. I've had 17", 19" and a 21" risers and prefer the longbow limbs on shorter risers (17" and 19"). I've owned DAS, Trad Tech and a early Morrison ILF. Right now have my limbs on a Samick Discovery. No problems tuning and is a nice shooting bow. They're not for everyone but I sure enjoy mine. Not to hijack the thread, but Oscar-eleven, how do you like the Discovery?  I've had my eye on it and would like to move toward ILF with the longbow option.

Well I guess since we build the LB limbs for Lancaster, I can chime in.

When putting together an ILF longbow there are a couple of things to keep in mind.
First do not use a riser longer then 21 and probably 19".  The vertical stability of a longbow limb does
not work well on an extremely long riser.
Second add one length over your RC limbs.  So if you shoot medium RC limbs go with long LB limbs.
This has to do with the string angle created on the LB limbs.

I shoot Hoyt satori 17" with medium limbs so long ones for me then. I draw 29" but I guess that should not be a problem since my current mediums are not giving any grief.

I have a 19 inch riser (CD WF 19)and recently bought some used long Dryad Longbow Limbs to make a 64 inch bow. I have been wondering about recommendations for brace height since I am new to ILF.
I use the CD mostly for working on form and some target.

I have moved to a modern ILF longbow using a das master, 17", with long Dryad acs cx longbow limbs, 29" draw, sweet rig. I can easily get them very very quiet which can be a challenge with high performance recurve limbs shooting three under or a fixed crawl. Lately I have been shooting the Dryad Orion 15" riser xl longbow acs limbs. So quiet and accurate for me.
For the ILF rig I set the Dryad longbow limbs even tiller, 3 under, and measure 7 1/2" where the limbs leave the riser.

Searay, I like it. IMO, I think it's a good looking riser and has all the features I want or need. I do intend on using it with LB limbs almost exclusively. It's a very nice shooting bow.

I can only comment on an epic 17 riser I had with medium centaur limbs....it was fast but was rough for my 29.5 draw...more handshock then I would have liked...my guess is if I had the same limbs on a 19in riser it would have been much more forgiving.

My WF19 with Dryad LBX Longs is a dream to shoot.


Was glad Mike cleared up some concerns. Thank you Mike. I had originally been shooting the LBX Longs on a upper end 21" riser. Couldn't put my finger on it however, the setup feel was slightly amiss, my accuracy was down a little and the wonderful feel generated by a nice shot execution was mildly impeded.

Like mentioned above, longbow limbs seem to noodle on longer risers. IME 13-17 works very well. I shot a das dx5 for a while that was marketed as a longbow specific riser. I've got my tradtech longbow limbs (the dryad ones) on my vpa vapor and it's an awesome little bow.

What is everyone running for brace height on their wf19's with medium limbs.

My tradtech rc woods like about 7.5 to 7.75.  My black max limbs like about 8.  Hoyt xtour's like 8.25 to 8.5.
