Traditional Moose Bowhunt ??

I am going next year and am trying to get set up correctly.
Asking those who have hunted Moose. What arrow weight range is proper? What was your draw weight, and broadhead choice?
We will be calling the Moose and I know the shots will be close, from 5 to 20 steps.

I shot a bull moose up in the Yukon with  a Great Northen recurve 70 #'s. I used a Zwickey 2 blade Delta on a 2219. About 650 grains.Any bow over 50's will do the job. 2 blades are the way to go.Where are you going? good luck.

I shot a bull Moose in Northern Saskatchewan 9 yards with a 67 lb longbow xx75 and 4 bladed zwicky eskimo he went 100 yards and died, I shot him behind the shoulder. arrow went in near fletch deep. I did go thru some of his front leg don't know the muscel but its the oposite of your bicep, behind the leg???

I shot a bull in canada 5 years ago 65lb massie long bow 2020s two blade zwicky pass though. I think the arrow was in the 650 range. the shot was 28 yards.

I shot a 600# cow in NH this past season. I shot a 60# DAS bow, a Beman MFX 340 arrow, 29", 100 grain insert and 125 grain Razorcap...total arrow weight was about 600 grains.. Shot her in the heart and she was down in 3 seconds.

You don't need high poundage bows, just put the arrow where it should go. Good luck and have fun.

I shot a whopper in '94 with a 66# Black Widow  and Zwickey Delta 2 blades . I was using JD Supernaturals in 2315 . Not sure of the weight though . Dispite their size they don't seem so tough when hit in the right spot .

I shot a young bull in Newfoundland with my 58# Dalaa at 30 yards in Aug. 2007; 530 grain arrow with Grizzly broadhead; Complete double lung passthru. Clipped a rib going in and out.  "The Whittler" is on the mark.  Shot placement is the key.

I've shot two now.

First with a 64lb bob lee, barrel tapered ash arrow and 125 grain zwickey head, almost a complete pass through.  

Second was with a 60lb longbow.   POC arrow and same head.  buried into the paint but not to the fletch.

Either way both died a quick very very short no tracking needed death.  

Personally 55lbs on a Alaska yukon is what I'd prefer no less then, though I know 50 and heck even 40 will work in the right hands.  

I've shot 60lbs for quite awhile now and dont plan on changing anytime soon....works well for everything.   Shoot what you're confident in.  If the arrow is flying straight, and where it should be, it'll do the job just fine.  As said earlier, moose are not hard to kill animals!

Took a nice bull on the Moose John a few years ago.  Used a 66# Robertson longbow, 725 grain birch arrows, 4-blade Zwickey head.

Hit him right in the crease, center of lungs; he went about 100 yards.

60# Bear t/d with 145 ribtek on carbon total weight 585 grain. punched a hole through the scapula.

I am going October 2009 north of Prince George, British Columbia. I will take my 56# PGA Widow and my new BBO 53#. The 2216's for my PGA weight in (stuffed with 1/4" poly)close to 700 grains. My POC's for the BBO weigh 470 which I just don't think is heavy enough. I do have time to "play" trying to find a heavy wood shaft that the BBO likes. I am starting with ASH and going from there. I hope to find out how the POC's and the Osage does on black bear in May. I just love Zwickey broadheads and I know there will be no issues there.

JDS3, the 2216 is a pretty wide diameter shaft, you will proberbly have pretty much the same penetration with a 600 grain slimmer (carbon)shaft frontloaded with steel adapter as you will with a 700 grain 2216.

The main benefit will be about 15 fps in arrowspeed giving you less curve on your arrow.

i killed my bull with a 47 lb ( at my draw) recurve,CE heritage 150 with a 100 grain brass in sert and a 2 blade steel force. We called the bull and he walked by me at 6 paces when I released , Arrow went thru his heart , he went 45 yards.
