« on: March 29, 2008, 06:04:00 PM »
does anyone else use a similiar type of marine epoxy spray as Black Widow?? i was looking at a Widow longbow the other day and MAN does that finish look tough and thick.!! no wonder i have always heard about them being bullet-proof. i was just curious...might like to try some on a bow...if its not too expensive.

Marine epoxy atleast what I've worked with on my canoe is some great stuff.

It does have one inherant problem.  It has NO UV protection...which means you'll need to varnish it to keep it from breaking down!   I dont know what BW uses, but if you choose say Raka, West system, or System 3 epoxies you'll run into this problem.

You may call them and see if there is a possible way for them to add UV protectors....  My exp is with Raka, it workes very very well, easy to use, easy to mix, plenty of work time.

I do remember seeing a picture of a John Scifres BBO that was sprayed with regular devcon two ton epoxy from a preval sprayer that looked AWESOME!  I've since tried the prevals for varnishing my canoe and they worked great.....I'm sure they'll work fine with the epoxy if it's thinned enough and you clean up well after every use!  Though I'm not sure even if Devcon Two Ton has UV protectors in it...something to consider.

Are you using marine epoxy to laminate the bow?
